Stories From the Heart presents “U-turns:  Stories about path changing events.”
Peace Lutheran Church, Lauderdale, 1744 Walnut Street, Lauderdale, MN 55113.  Directions

Storytellers Tina Rohde, Gene Van Massenhoven, Duke Addicks, and David Greenlund.  Hosted by Bill Eisenmann.  There’s a reason most highways prohibit U-turns; they are scary, unpredictable and can cause serious accidents. But what about the times when life throws us 180 degrees in the opposite direction? Our storytellers will bring insight and humor to life’s U-turns.  Note:  Stories from the Heart is still looking for tellers for the 2008-09 season.  “Stories from the Heart” is a nondenominational venue sponsored by Northstar which encourages the exploration of the mysterious and spiritual nature of life. We challenge both audience and tellers alike to consider the faith journey; how our paths are so alike and yet so very unique. What better way to explore, share and celebrate the mysteries of our hearts than through story?  We will be sharing stories at Peace Lutheran Church in Lauderdale (close to the fairgrounds) on Saturdays, Sept. 13th, December 6th, March 7, 2009 and June 6, 2009 from 7:00-9:00.  The remaining themes for this quarterly venue are as follows:  December 6, “A Home Within.”  March 7, 2009, “Rebirth.”  June 6, 2009, “Shalom” (Stories of war and peace).  We are looking for featured tellers to tell stories of about 10-15 minutes in length which speak to the theme of the evening. Each evening will also include an open mic portion where anyone may share a 5-7 minute story. Featured tellers share the tip jar.  If you would like to tell at one of the “Stories From the Heart” concerts contact Pam Schweitzer at pls [at] isp.com, or call 651-487-3376.

The Bureau of Fantasy/Cabaret Avec
Lake Pepin Art & Design Center
406 Second Street, Pepin, Wisconsin

Stina Fagertun and Anita Barth-Jørgensen: “The Bureau of Fantasy/Cabaret Avec.”  Performers and teachers from the Arctic circle on tour in Midwest.  Introduced and with a story or two by Maren Hinderlee.  Stina Fagertun and Anita Barth-Jørgensen of Tromsø, Norway are teachers who have their own performance company: “The Bureau of Fantasy/Cabaret Avec.” Anita is the musician and Stina is the storyteller. They carefully use old forgotten fairytales, especially from the Sami and Kven people of northern Norway, and add music played on traditional instruments from the Artic region and songs from the area to create programs that are entertaining and express their love for the Arctic. In Norway they have created big outdoor productions writing the scripts, arranging the music and training large casts of children, adults and even live animals. They have represented their city and the arctic in London and will be doing performances in Minneapolis, Pepin and at the Norsk Høstfest in Minot, North Dakota where they have performed for the past three years. Later this year they will be returning to perform in New York and New Orleans.  The evening begins with a reception at 7:00, with refreshments available for purchase.  Call 715.442-4442 for gallery hours and program information, check the web site at: www.pepinartdesign.org. Suggested donation of $10 adults and $5 for students, $20 for the whole family.  For more information about the tour of Stina Fagertun and Anita Barth-Jørgensen, who are also performing during September in Brahmin, Minnesota and Duluth, contact Ross Sutter at 612-331-1968 or at rosssutter [at] qwest.net.

Tellers to be announced.  Hosted by Pam Schweitzer.  A story time, just like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich-a story on both sides, and lots of fun squished in-between. For directions, call the Coffee Grounds at (651) 644-9959 or visit www.thecoffeegrounds.net. We have been so blessed with tellers, such as yourselves, who bring all different styles and backgrounds, and who volunteer to tell stories to the children in the Como Park area. Over the past few years, we have had a consistently strong response from the community and we nearly always fill the audience. Are you interested in joining us this next season? The dates we have open are November 6, December 4, January 8, February 5, March 5, April 2, May 7, June 4, and July 2. If you are able to tell, please pick a date and e-mail me back as soon as possible. Thanks for your continued support of P.J. Stories and of family friendly storytelling in general. I look forward to hearing from you. E-mail Pam Schweitzer at PLS [at] isp.com.

Faster than the Speed of Life
The Men’s Center
3249 Hennepin Ave., Suite 55, Minneapolis, MN

Alex Bernstein and Larry Johnson will tell stories that drag the boy out of the man and put him back again. Faster than a speeding bullet and able to leap over tall buildings in several bounds, they will do about an hour of stories, with a chance to just talk at the end.  Alex and Larry met, travelling opposite directions, during a sonic boom.   Alex, a Russian immigrant, delights in telling Russian folktales and stories of his adventures traveling the world.  He has performed in Minnesota for over 15 years, including TWO CHAIRS TELLING at the Jungle Theatre, the Seward Cafe, Coffee Grounds, and many others.  Larry was a 2 year old immigrant from Mpls to Bloomington, before the developers mowed down the country his dad sought in 1948.  He tells folktales of Bloomington with facts slightly exaggerated to protect the innocent.  He has walked and told stories since the late 60s throughout the U.S. and in England, Germany, Sweden, Norway, and Ecuador; always slightly under the radar.  $5 donation to the Men’s Center.  Call 612-747-3904 for more information.
